Learning about 2.0

Libraries have always been in the business of reaching out to people. New technologies are allowing us to reach people we may have missed in the past. In order for libraries to remain dynamic, we are going to have to embrace these new technologies and evolve with them. Although the original thought may have been that we have more ways to reach young people, statistics are showing us that all ages are using these new technologies (as the latest stats on new facebooks users will attest.)

Upon watching the videos and reading through the articles, I can't say that I share all the enthusiasm others may have about 2.0, but I am interested enough to put the time and effort into becoming familiar with them and in so doing, I may actually develop this enthusiasm. I am one of those who came into the library field when we made our own catalog cards and each book had an accession number. I am still amazed at how much things have changed in the library world and how librarians (and patrons) are adapting to this rapidly changing environment. As I progress through the remaining 21 things, I may see for myself the "unintended consequences" that will result from my efforts to expand my knowledge base.
